How Adam Failed Eve in the Bible: A Closer Look
The story of Adam and Eve in the Bible is one of the most well-known and often-cited narratives.
Most times when the story is cited or shared, Eve is always blamed as the one responsible for deceiving Adam and causing the fall of ” Man” as seen In the Scripture in Genesis 3:1-6.
However, closer examination reveals that Adam’s actions in the Garden of Eden played a significant role in Eve’s fall. In this article, we’ll explore how Adam failed Eve in the Bible and the lessons we can learn from it.
1. Adam Failed To Provide Leadership :
One of the primary ways that Adam failed Eve was by not leading her well.
“…the head of the woman is man…” 1Corithians 11:3
In Genesis 2:15-17, after the LORD God formed man He gave man ( Adam ) a purpose and instructions for his purpose.
What the LORD God said;
And the LORD God commanded (instructed) the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat the tree of knowledge of good and evil, when you eat from it, you will surely die”
When Eve came into his life, Adam did not correctly and plainly share with Eve God’s “ Instruction” for their purpose as a family, the Garden of Eden.
This showed in her discussion with the Serpent ( the deceiver).
What the Serpent said;
Now the Serpent was crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He asked the woman,
“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?” Genesis 3:1
What the Woman said;
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.”
Beloved the LORD God did not say; “If you eat from the tree that is in the middle nor you must not touch it, or you will surely die.”
No, He did not.
Eve’s response to the serpent’s question shows that she does not have the right information to counter the words of the Serpent.
Adam was the one to whom God gave the instruction in Genesis 2:16 -17. He failed in his responsibility to explain his God-given instruction clearly to his wife. Because Adam failed to provide good leadership by teaching and explaining clearly the LORD’s instructions and command, she was easy prey for the Serpent.
Every husband as the leader and head of the home must communicate plainly and clearly, his purpose, vision, goals and instructions backing them with his wife in the language she will understand, this will help him avoid making the same mistakes Adam made.
In the Scripture it is written; “write down the vision; write it clearly (plainly) on clay tablets so whoever reads it can run to tell others. “Habakkuk 2:2 (EXB).
2. Adam Failed to Protect And Speak Up When It Mattered :
In addition to failing to lead, Adam also failed to protect Eve. When Eve was tempted by the Serpent in Genesis 3:1-6, Adam should have stepped in and protected her from harm by countering the lies of the Serpent with the right Word and instruction from the LORD God. Instead, he stood idly by and allowed her to be deceived.
Husbands are instructed to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her in Ephesians 5:25-28. This includes protecting their wives from harm and danger and speaking up in their defence.
Adam’s failure to protect Eve and speak up not only led to their fall but the fall of all mankind from the place of glory. It also shows us the importance of husbands taking responsibility for their families’ spiritual well-being as the head of the home.
See Responsibilities Of A Husband ( The Chief Security Officer) for in-depth teaching on the role husbands are to play in their homes.
3. Adam Failed To Take Responsibility For His actions:
After both Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, God confronted them about their disobedience. However, when asked by God why he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Adam quickly shifted the blame to Eve:
“The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate” (Genesis 3:12)
He blamed the woman and God.
Adam instead of taking responsibility for his actions and repenting chose to blame Eve for his own disobedience. This failure to take responsibility not only damaged his relationship with God but also led to the LORD cursing the ground, pronouncing hardship upon Adam and the pain of pregnancy and childbirth on Eve.
Dear Husbands, Adam’s failure to lead, protect, and take responsibility played a significant role in Eve’s fall in the Garden of Eden.
This serves as a reminder that as leaders and husbands, each of your actions and inactions, has Spiritual and Physical consequences in your home and family.
Your wife, children and home are your responsibilities.
When things go wrong in your home, quit blaming your wife or the devil.
Let us learn from how Adam failed Eve in the Bible so that we don’t make the same mistakes too.
