“Scientia potential est,” translated ‘Knowledge is power’ is a famous proverb attributed to 16th–century philosopher Francis Bacon.
What then is knowledge?
Knowledge simply put is information, skills, and facts acquired through education or experience.
Knowledge is information.
It is often said, knowledge (Information) is power”. But that is only partially correct.
You can have all the information in the world, but if the information you have is old and outdated information, then the information you have is useless and of no relevance.
It is not enough to have knowledge (information). The question is, the knowledge you have is it current knowledge?
The current and relevant knowledge (information) an individual has, is a powerful tool that gives him or her the power to control the forces of nature and turn things around them and get benefits.
Thus I will say, “The current and relevant information you have is power”.
As a Christian, you need current and relevant knowledge (information) in your walk and relationship with God, so as to do exploits in your God-given Purpose and Assignment.
When it comes to matters of divine instructions and revelation we need to be current with God. Do not carry out divine instructions based on your knowledge of yesterday, last week, last month, or last year.
That God made you pass through road ‘A’ yesterday, doesn’t mean He wants you to pass through the same road today.
Never assume for God.
Always ask God for the current information you need now.
God will not give you success and victory in life because you are spiritual, religious, and know how to quote scriptures but because you are current and sensitive to His instructions per time.
I will explain what I mean by “being current with God” by using; Two Case studies in the scriptures.
Case Study 1: David Conquers The Philistines (1Chronicles 14:8-17)
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David heard of it and went out against them.
The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
David asked God, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?”
The LORD replied, “Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.”
So David and his troops went up to Baal- perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed.
“He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” they named that place Baal-perazim.
The Philistines abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn them.
But after a while, the Philistines returned and raided the valley again.
Once again David asked God what to do.
“Do not attack them straight on,” God replied.
Instead, circle around behind and attack them in front of the mulberry trees.
When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the mulberry trees, go out and attack. That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistines’ army.
So David did as God commanded, and they struck down the Philistines’ army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.
Then the fame of David spread everywhere, and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
Beloved, David defeated the Philistines army twice, and God himself honoured David by putting the fear of him upon all nations because he had the current knowledge (information) from God on how to defeat his enemies.
David did not assume that just because the last time he went out against the Philistines, God gave him permission to go that he will overcome as He will deliver them into his hands that it will be the case the second time he is fighting against the Philistines army. No! He did not.
He “inquired again” from the LORD to get the current knowledge (information) for the now. He did not face the Philistines army with the knowledge of yesterday from the LORD.
Because he did this, he defeated them and his fame spread into all the land.
Beloved in our walk with God and in carrying out our divine Assignment and Purpose, it’s very easy to assume that because God told us to do a thing yesterday, and it worked, He would have us repeat the same thing again today.
But with God, that is not the case.
In the case of David and the Philistines army above, we saw that it was the same Philistines army, the same battleground, but God used a different battle strategy.
In the first battle, God told David to “attack straight on” while He the LORD handed them over to David and his troops.
While in the second battle, because David “inquired again” of the LORD, He told David;
“Do not attack them straight on” When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the mulberry trees, go out and attack. That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistines’ army.
God led the second battle Himself.
Let’s take a minute to imagine if David had not “inquired again” from the LORD, what would have happened on that battleground.
He would have lost the life of his troops and if care is not taken, his own life or returned back with a serious injury.
The Philistines army gods which David ordered to be burned, would have taken the glory. It would have been said; “that because he burned their gods its wrath came upon David and his troops and destroyed them”.
But that was not the truth.
The truth is that David and his troops would have died because as a leader, he failed to get the current knowledge (information) before leading his troops into battle so they suffered the consequences.
Thank God that was not the case.
Dear leader of a Home, Church, Mosque, Company, or Multinational Company, what knowledge are you leading with? old, stale, obsolete knowledge(information) or current knowledge(information)?
In the world of technology, our cell phones always bring system updates with newly added features. Our phone applications also require you to update them in the Play Store.
If this is the case with Man-made technologies, how much more God from whom all things exist?
Case Study 2: Abraham’s Faith Tested (Genesis 22: 1-18)
After waiting for 25 years, Abraham and his wife Sarah finally received the child of promise whom God promised them. Abraham called the name of his son Isaac and circumcised him when he was eight days old, as God had commanded.
Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said,
“Here I am”.
Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.
The next morning Abraham rose early. Saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, Isaac his son, chopped wood for the fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about.
On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.
“Stay here with the donkey”, Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back”.
When Abraham and Isaac arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it.
Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.
Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice.
But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven, Abraham! Abraham!
“Yes”, Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
“Do not lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. Do not hurt him in any way, for now, I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld your son, your only son, from me”.
Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. He took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.
Beloved, just like in the case of David and the Philistines army above, if Abraham wasn’t sensitive to hearing the latter instruction, he would have sacrificed Isaac in obedience to the first instruction (information) not knowing that God was only testing him to know his heart.
Abraham was current with God to know the first and latter instruction (the knowledge for the now) which was what he needed not to make the wrong sacrifice.
Many leaders and believers in faith are walking and working for God, and carrying out their divine Assignment and Purpose on stale knowledge (information) and instructions whose life span is over.
Truly, they heard specific and clear instructions from God about what they are doing presently but God is expecting them to “inquire again” just like David on the next instruction and information they need now. But they keep using the knowledge of yesterday for the battle of today.
Many are not current with God in matters of leading and instruction. They fail to realize that God wants us to be progressive in our relationships and dealings with Him.
Beloved, never assume you know how God will handle a particular challenge, issue or situation just because you saw what and how He did it before either in your life or in that of others.
Be Current in Hearing from Him.
The time you spend inquiring from God to get divine direction and strategy is not a spent time (wasted) but time well invested.
It is dangerous for you to act on instructions that have expired or run out its course.
It is dangerous for you to fight the battle of today with knowledge (information) of yesterday which has expired and is of no relevance. Its consequences for you and your troops could be fatal.
Like David always ask God for the current information you need now. That is, the knowledge for the now, which is relevant to your divine assignment.
God Bless YOU

This is beautiful.
Having the right and complete knowledge for now and being able to respond immediately like David did as in the case of the movement of the mulberry tree is what we need now more that ever.
Some countries did not get current information about COVID19 and suffered for it. Some got information but responded late and also suffered for it. Others like New Zealand got information, acted promptly and saved their nations from the ordeals of COVID19.
We pray that God will bless our nation Nigeria with leaders who has foresight with access to current information and ability to act on it promptly so that a better nation can emerge
